Young Writers: Sarah Makin for Yass Tribune

Yass teenager Sarah Makin, who is Deaf and in year 10 at Yass High, has written for the Yass Tribune on the experience of being Deaf, the differences in culture and how bluntness is the norm when speaking with Deaf people! She also discusses some of the misconceptions Deaf people face, including facing pity and the idea that deafness is a “fixable” problem. Sarah ends with, “Deafness is not something that needs to be fixed.”.
