Last year Tayla was part of DCA’s Deafhood team for YMCA Victoria’s Youth Parliament. Tayla wants to form another team this year and hopes you can join her!
Last year, the team attended Parliament House in Melbourne, as well as a training weekend in the country. In the whole YMCA Youth Parliament, there were around 20 groups of participants aged 16 to 25. They had the chance to express their opinions on any issues that were important to them.
Last year the Deafhood team proposed a Bill about Closed Cinema Captioning. The team talked about the importance of this Bill for all members of society, as well as providing great access to the deaf and hard of hearing community.
After the debate, the Youth Parliament voted for the Bill so it could be considered by a member of Victorian Parliament for changes to the law.
Do you want to be involved this year? Tayla is looking for five d/Deaf or hard of hearing people or friends or family members who are aged between 16-25 years old to join.
