    Auslan Tutor/s (Casual)

    Seeking expressions of interest from qualified Auslan tutors to provide individualised classes to deaf and hard of hearing children, young people and their families in a variety of community and home-based situations in Melbourne.

    • Tutoring and supporting deaf and hard of hearing young people at different stages of life
    • Removing barriers and enhancing skills and opportunities
    • Casual Melbourne based roles available

    We need Auslan Tutors to join our progressive and passionate team.  You will work with deaf and hard of hearing children and young people and their families to develop individual learning plans and provide tutoring and support in Auslan.

    Our goals are to work with deaf and hard of hearing children and young people so they experience:

    • Increased self-esteem and positive relationships and connections within the community;
    • Better educational outcomes and employment opportunities; and
    • Age appropriate educational, social and emotional development.

    In addition to this is supporting young people so they have the knowledge, skills and confidence to achieve their own wellbeing, and feel supported in their family, school and community.

    The ideal candidate must have:

    • Tertiary qualification in youth work, Education, Certificate IV Workplace Training and Assessment or similar and/or relevant work history and experience.
    • Qualified interpreter with NATTI level 2 Auslan or high-level proficiency (native users preferred)
    • Demonstrated customer service skills with a commitment to ensuring a positive and professional customer experience
    • Must act as an effective deaf role model for families and their deaf or hard of hearing child or young person
    • Capacity to facilitate and engage in client group work, such as workshop presentations
    • A genuine interest in the development of young people and children
    • Strong organisational skills with an ability to effectively plan work, whilst demonstrating the flexibility to meet individual client needs
    • Ability to work independently
    • Knowledge of hearing loss, particularly in relation to young people
    • Auslan skills, and a knowledge of Deaf community and culture
    • A current Victorian Drivers Licence.
    • A current Working with Children check and Police check.
