We are very excited to announce that Deaf Children Australia has been awarded an Information, Linkages and Capacity Building National Readiness Grant as part of the roll out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
Need to be Heard is a two year, multifaceted program aiming to address the specific needs of children and young people who are deaf and hard of hearing. The project will pilot a Network Development and Capacity Building Pilot program in Queensland and Victoria which aims to build peer support networks for deaf and hard of hearing children, young people and their families and develop and provide a range of resources addressing their needs.
Funding is also directed towards establishing targeted information services, network development and capacity building for Indigenous families in the Northern Territory.
This initiative will build on the capacity of children and young people to actively engage with and participate in the life of their communities, and be empowered in decisions which affect them. These pilot programs will contribute to refining Deaf Children Australia’s current National Information Service to better enable it to represent different geographic, cultural and language needs.
