Auslan in Kindergartens

Early childhood language program

From term 1 2019, funding will be available to allow around 5,000 preschool children across Victoria the chance to learn a language in addition to English.
There are two programs running, in the first children will learn another language for up to three hours per week, in the second the kindergarten will run a bilingual program.

As part of this program, Australian sign language (Auslan) is to be taught at dozens of mainstream preschools in Victoria next year in what is being billed as an Australian first.
